With the 50mm f/1.8 he's going to have to be playing the sport he's shooting. Then there is manual focusing, quickly, in the D40's excuse for a viewfinder. Also as far as shallow DOF, the lens will always be at infinity, so it's not going to be that shallow.



Don't get me wrong, it's a great lens, but I don't think it fits his usage.
