I have both your lenses, and I rarely use the kit lens because it doesn't work for low light shots... the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is great for low light, but it is a tight lens for street photo... I recommend tha Sigma 30mm f/1.4, it's a great lens on a crop camera, wonderful for night shots, with excellent bokeh and all. As a matter of fact it's my next lens purchase. I borrowed a friend's Sigma 30mm lens and fell in love with it.
