Reply to Is the 50 mm lens not a 50 mm lens? That is the question

Heh... that sums it up really.



The focal length of a lens is not dependent on the size of the sensor or whether it is 35mm film or digital.



A 50mm prime lens is always a 50mm prime lens. What may differ is angle of view. To help people (like me) from the old school to know what angle of view they will get, some manufacturers and commentators use a "35mm equivalent" figure so we know what angle of view we will get. If we had always used angle of view from the start, there would have been no confusion.
