Ok, I confess - I only know what I know thru osmosis - my late hubby was a professional. I never pushed a shutter button til he was gone. Recently I bought a prosumer Canon IS, progressed to the Canon Rebel, and now I am totally in love with my NIkon D80. (Guess I should dump the Nikon 35mm, Hasselblad, etc - no film cameras for me) There are people out there that must think I know more than I do - because I have been asked to shoot for an annual gala of a local well-known non profit organization - pro bono. There will be an 8'x11' stage with several small performances (people and their pets). I haven't been to the location yet to scope it out - but curious what general advice would be for settings and using my flash. I have a SB800 and the standard 18-135mm kit lens. Should I just set everything on auto and hope for the best or is there some suggestions from any of you wonderful know-it-alls that can get me thru this - short of looking for a substitute.
