Reply to Tripod for Type of Photography (not a recommendation thread)

I do a real mixture of photography working on an angling magazine and I use a Manfrotto 055CL with a 229 Super Po £D head (a pretty basic set up) and it's portable enogh to strap onto my back pack but heavy-duty enough to use with telephoto lenses or for macro work.



It's not the lightest piece of kit but I can fit a shoulder strap (although bags are available) and it's weighty enough to handle long lenses.



A wide footprint is definitely the most important thing to consider and the way you can title the legs (if you put if flat) is a bonus too.
