I used my old E Series with 2x converter to get a longer reach without any problem other than the lack of metering. Things to remember.
Since there is no mechanical linkage, there is nothing to hold the aperture open, so your view finder gets darker when you stop down the lens. So, focus before you stop down the lens.
Since Nikon decided to turn off the meter if there isn't a CPU on the lens (a pet peeve of mine: metathemus.journalspace.com/?cmd=forward&entryid=2)
you will have to guess and adjust the exposure using the histogram or at least the picture preview on the camera,but that's not as big of a deal as it would be with the film cameras where you don't get the instant feedback.
