yelovet00 - it has nothing to do with the camera. if you mounted that lens on a 300D the sharpness would still be the same, although you wouldn't be able to crop that much, as the 300D has 6 MP vs. the 40D's 10 MP.
It mostly has to do with the fact that the 28-135mm is generally a pretty sharp lens, and since you stopped the lens down to f/9, you have a sharp photo.
