Reply to Canon 50mm 1.4 vs 1.8

I think it depends on how much you want to use it, and what you want to use it for. I have the 1.8, and I'm completely happy with it-- I use it for self portraits, and the occaisonal portrait of family and friends. It's a great lens to have, and I'm glad that I bought it. However, of all my lenses, it's the one that I use the least. I think that if I wanted a 50mm lens for most of my photography, I'd prefer to have the 1.4, not so much for the extra aperture (I rarely use my 1.8 at its absolute widest anyway), but for the increased build, and more importantly, increased picture quality.
