How often do you clean your lenses?
Even by this short series of messages in this thread, it's apparent that a number of individuals use filters, regardless.
Perhaps you can share with us what and how YOUR perfect method of cleaning lenses is? Would it be fair to say that it is absolutely true that after 5, 10, 15 years of using your lenses without filters and using YOUR lens cleaning care method, your lenses--the coatings and the surfaces--will look absolutely 100% pristine as brand new?
My cameras and lenses have been out and about in many areas of the globe, in hot, dusty, dry environments to cold, damp, and misty environments. Did I mention sea spray? I also use lens hoods. Believe me, any shortcomings of using filters are vastly outweighed by environmental conditions present.
This is interesting, and I appreciate the effort you put into your reply. Perhaps some testing is in order.
