I was thinking monsoons and sideways moving rain. A friend of mine lost some shots using a non-sealed lens in Southern India on his 1d. Camera and lens were fine after some drying, but the af got stubborn and he actually got some water inside the box, somehow. I told him he didn't lock the lens firmly enough on the mount., and he just gave me an exasperated look and told me to screw off, he wasn't a fool.
And wow, you are damn lucky your camera worked after the pond drop! My heart would've been in my throat. Did you have to dry it out, or did you just keep clicking after fishing it out?
There's another thread somewhere in this group in which someone mentions dropping his 1ds mkII in salt water with a sealed lens. He pulled it out nearly immediately, but it never worked again.
