You need to shoot jpg or use Canon DPP software (for RAW) to make them work and I do neither of these things, so they are no use to me.
In addition to the things you mention they also change the colour mapping so that you get an overall 'look'. It's something like changing film type in a film camera.
I suppose it's OK if you want to give a whole shoot a certain look without post-processing but I'd much rather do this myself.
