Reply to Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS - first impressions...

Wow! I just read the review in photozone. According to the lab tests the new kit lens is an incredibly good 18mm lens and at the wide end beats both the 17-40L and 16-35L mk I lenses. photozone has not yet tested the 16-35L mk II which is a lot better than the mk I.



The L lenses are still better with chromatic aberation barell distortion and vignetting. But those problems can be fixed with software. There is no software fix for missing resolution.



But the L lenses are still good enough that you don't need to replace them with the new kit lens if you already own them.
