You need a steady hand, that's for sure. but 6 months later and my 350D is still trucking :)
I'm looking to upgrade to a 40D or at worst (if I really really really need to) a 400D (body only though) if only because my current camera now has a known weak spot that may fail at any time.
If your camera is still under warranty you might be able to convince canon it was a design fault and get it fixed for free. The reason it costs so much though isn't because it is an expensive part (it isn't) but because the tech basically have to dismantle the entire camera to get to it and time costs money.
