For macro, I don't know how Canon's macro lens compares to the Raynox DCR-250 but I see a whole lot of users of this series of cameras using it. It may be because of the price that it is popular. But I love it.
And the Lensmate that Michael mentioned is the bayonet adapter that lets you attach addon lenses and filters. Lensmate's are highly recommended by lots of users. They are made from aluminum instead of plastic like Canon's.
For flash, you probably do want to stick with Canon. I tried one of the cheap SunPak flashes and exchanged it for a Canon Speedlight 430ex. A bit big for the camera, but an amazing flash. If you do a lot of macros, you might look into the 500 series. They are more expensive, but can be angled down. I have created a diffuser out of paper and tape so mine can be useful for macro distances. I wish I had the other one, but it costs about what I paid for the camera.
I also buy a lot of Camera stuff from Amazon. Thanks for that tip about CoinStar.
