I've had a 24-105 for a couple of weeks now. Even wide-open, it seems to be a very good lens in all respects - focuses quickly, sharp, not a lot of vignetting wide-open, and the IS works much better than I expected.
One knock - I'd heard about a reputation for barrel distortion ~24mm, and it is very noticeable, if you plan to do much shooting where that will be a problem. The distortion is pretty much gone by 35mm.
