I have read quite a lot of topics here. But, I have to say, I worked quite a lot of years for Nikon Europe first as assistant product manager and much later as Marketing Manager.
Both brands I do know very well. Basically my heart belongs to Nikon. And therefore I do say that overall Nikon makes better SLR cameras. But not in the top segment. The decision years ago from Nikon not to start with Full size sensors was a very bad decision. For top quality SLR camera' you need a full size sensor.
Finally Nikon comes to the market with D3. After this introduction I dare to say that Nikon is better than Canon.
Overall Canon cameras are also very good, there is nothing wrong with them, but ergonomics, used materials, colour balance, hard saturation Canon is not at the same level as Nikon is manufacturing.
Canon has defintely a better marketing department and much more money available, because of their other activities as printing, video cameras etcetera. Therefore the market share from Canon will alsways stay the biggest.
