Reply to Sigma 300-500 lens

Yes, a lot of the old Sigmas have chips that are incompatible with the newer digital SLR's. It seems to have been the 10D that was a big change. I bought a very nice 300mm Sigma lens from somebody on e-bay, and it worked with their old D30, but would not with my 10D. (Somebody at Sigma told me it would work.) I diddled around and did not get it re-chipped right away, and then Sigma told me they would not do it any longer. So I traded the lens and bought a Canon. (Too bad, Sigma quit making that lens.)

So, it is like computers--older software, or in this case firmware, in a lens will not necessarily be compatible with newer cameras.
