For digital cameras, I’ve been recommending the Canon PowerShot series as broadly reasonable–we’ve got two and they’re great, still working just fine after several years. The A570IS has 7.1 megapixels, image stabilization, 4x optical zoom, and uses 2 AA batteries. Consumer Search even labels it “best digital camera overall, best features”. For $160, this is an easy pick.
