About the 500 DG Super: I've had one for about a year and a half bought brand new. I used it mostly on full power with the wide angle diffuser and now it's burning through the lens. It smokes too. So yeah, build quality not that great but I liked it when it didn't burn. Also, I'd assume it wasn't made to be on full power with the diffuser on all the time but my sb-24's can take the abuse.
