My two bits.... you have a great little lens, the plastic gumball as I call it the 50mm 1.8 it is great, sharp, wonderful color and contrast! But on the 1.6 crop it is not a true 50mm.
I bought an used 35mm f/2 canon ,and aside from being a tad noisy, it is a great prime and very close to a 50mm on a 1.6 crop. It is sharp, great color and contrat and it doesn't break the bank.
If you want a wider prime go canon 20mm f2.8 usm another great sharp lens cost more than say the 35, but wider and the usm makes it quiter.
Also, if you are looking at a 28mm, look at the 1.8 it is very nice prime also.
I have a tokina 12-24 f/4 and I love it, can I say it again love it! for my really wide alley shots and street shots. And it is a constant f/4. Not quite canon L lens quality but a heck of a beautiful lense for the price.
The canon 85mm I have read is very good.
Dont waste your money on the 28-105 3.5-4.5 Save it and by a good used 24-70 L or a 24-105 IS L , I have the 24-105 IS L and it is very nice but I borrowed a 24-70 f2.8 and WOW was I impressed.
And definately get a 70-200 f/4 L, but if you do get the IS you will not regret it, I thought the sales person was just trying to sell me up with the IS but I am soooo glad I got it on the bigger lens!!!
It has taken me a long time to get the pieces that I have, you just have to come up with a plan and decide what is important at this time and what is in the budget and keep to you plan until you get the lenses you need. I still have a ways to go, a good macro is on my list next!
Hope this helps!
