the Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8 L USM is even more than the 100-400mm? Whys that? or is it the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM i should be looking for?
Really it just depend what you are after. For all round flexability and Pro results go for the Pro lens which is the f2.8 L zoom. The standard kit for wildlife/sport/photojournalism these days is a combination of the 24 -70 f2.8 and the 70 -200 f2.8 with extenders for longer reach. For real top quality images the telephoto primes are even better but don't have the flexibility. The 300mm f2.8 being just about the best telephoto lens there is (but costs as much as a car) the 300mm f4 which I have used is great and will do most of what the f2.8 will but obviously lacks that extra stop.
The Canon f4 zooms get lots of good reviews but for the same money you can buy Sigma lenses and I have always found that they often represent better value than canons slower lenses.
You pays your money and you takes your choice...
