I find that the 50mm 1.8 does not get me close enough to macro subjects as I would like. I have a 60mm 2.8 and plan to get the Nikkor 105mm as even the 60mm requires that I be positioned too close to my subject.
I find that my Nikkor 55-200mm VR f/4-5.6G does not offer a wide enough aperture for macro photography and cannot see how a f/3.5 would either. As a beginner, it could just be me though...
