@ dfarwell - there's no way f/11 or f/4 is much faster than f/2.8 and that is why the lens with an aperture of f2.8 is so called fast lens. i never heard that an f/4 or f/11 is a fast lens and Canon is not that dumb either. LOL!
and for the question above. try to use AI servo too and watch your shutter speed also 'cos it might be a user error with a camera shake blur
