I agree with Alyn Smith: try to avoid D40/x. Theese cameras was made for Amateurs just like the XTI . Go to a shop and take them and compare with D80 or 30D etc. You'll see the difference. And -I don't know if it 's matter or not but Nikon sensors are bit bigger than the Canon ones. Look after this question. The other thing you should consider is the quality of a lens. Have a good choice!
