Nasty - I know how it feels. A couple of years back a retarded journalist I was working with sat on a table next to my 24-70 2.8, and in doing so knocked it flying onto the hard conrete floor.
To begin with the only problem was a slightly stiff zoom ring, but within a year it had pretty much stopped focusing altogether.
The repair wasn't too pricey, and I'm still using the lens 3 years later, but of course, it was impossible to make an insurance claim a year afterwards....
