I've had mine for over a year since getting my D80 and have been pretty pleased with it. In fact it was one of the reasons for going for the D80 - I really wanted the breadth from one lens and didn't want to be carrying a lot of kit, plus changing lenses just encourages sensor dust. As for the build quality mine survived a heavy drop (whilst in a bag) down some airline steps and has been fine since!
it does have (fixable) distortion and colour fringing (more of a pain) but I've lost count of the shots I would have missed if I'd been changing lenses or thinking about kit I'd left at home.
As always Bob speak's the truth - you get what you pay for - and IMHO the 18-135 is a bargain.
