Reply to flash advice

One of the things I do is to use the SB800 on camera and pull out the little bounce card. I tilt the flash head toward the ceiling so that the flash will not go directly at the players. Using SP set to 1/250 and an ISO of at least 400 will give pretty good exposures. I sometimes use auto ISO to get consistant results if the lighting is really bad.

If this is a game played in a small gym, the 70-200 may be a little to much lens. I generally use a 28-70 f/2.8 to cover the action at my grandkids basketball games but they're 5th and 6th grade basketball and are played in very small gyms where out of court means the bleachers.

This was taken with a 50mm lens at ISO 800. As you can see, you're right on top of the players. I made the mistake of bringing a 50-150 lens, so I couldn't get any wider.
