Reply to Nikon D80 vs. Canon 40D

I looked into the 20D/30D when I bought my D80 but decided to go with Nikon. I have family members that uses Nikon so I got a lot of old lenses from them. The Nikon build quality and ergonomics were very important to me too. The small differences in image quality are nothing compared to a cameras usability.

Canon has a lot more selection in the PRO glass field but much of it is too expensive for most people anyway. Nikon's budget glass is a lot better than Canon's. The final deal breaker for me was that I was able to pick up an Nikon 80-200 f2.8 for less than I could get a Canon 70-200 f4. I too previously used a Canon P&S and loved it.

Save the extra money and get a nice lens.
