Reply to New York, Tokina 12-24 and filters

I have never experienced a Hotspot with the 18-55, even without Hood. I don't have any wide angle lenses to compare with for the D50. Comparing it with my old camera Canon PS2, Hotspots where very hard to avoid while shooting IR. It was possible if you where very careful with reflective surfaces and was always shooting with the sun in your back. If you get a flare you will almost certainly get a Hotspot.

I was shooting this with the sun from the side, attempting to protect the lens using my hand (obviously not goot enough).

I was shooting this with very low sun from my back, positioned myself completely in the shadow amongst some trees.

I have now seen several people saying that the Nikkor 12-24 is a better lens, but maybe not given the almost doubled price. If it is less prone to produce flares and Hot spots while shooting IR that sounds like a good argument.

Does anyone have examples of IR photos with the Tokina and Nikkor both?
