B&H Used Nikon Lens Issue

A few weeks ago, I purchased a used 17-55mm 2.8 lens from B&H & really love it. I have been noticing that when I take photos of light subjects, I get these small black specks on the image when I look at it in Photoshop. On darker subjects it is non issue.



Today, I actually saw what I think is causing the issue. I saw a few large(ish) particles underneath the lens.



I am not sure what to do. B&H is closed & I feel kind of ripped off now stuck with a lens that may need a repair. How could they miss this, they are experts, right???



Has anyone experienced this & how could something get under the lens???
