I think it's perhaps a bit optimistic to think that as "a COMPLETE amateur" you are able to predict your subject in advance of actually finding it. What I mean is, once you start shooting, and if the bug gets you like it has gotten many people in this group, you'll want to shoot everything. And I mean everything. And that means that you will find that a wider angle lens will be necessary. Maybe not right away, but plan on it.
