The zooms around the "normal" range would cover more photographic situations. The Tamron 17-50mm is certainly a good way to go for a second lens. For more range, the Nikkor 18-70 is probably worth a look.



Macro capabilities of a zoom aren't worth much. For a good macro lens there a so many options, which to chose should be guided by your needs. Whether you're better off with a Nikkor 60mm, a Tamron 90mm or 180mm or ... depends on your subject mostly.
