Reply to lens recommendation

18-200 lens:

I know everyone wants to go with the flow, and with what many big photo review sites like might say, and the flow is to say it's not a good quality lens but only good enough for everyday simple photography. This is just because it has such a wide range and the "believes" are that such a wide range has to make major compromises on most everything else. Wrong. That thought belongs to the past.

MrDAT is comparing lenses and quality yet I don't see any photos in your Flickr account that show any extreme photography where any real evaluation of quality can be assessed. Maybe I've missed it or maybe you do not have any such photos posted on Flickr.

It's an excellent lens in quality and sharpness, comparable to the best macro lenses (which I already stated I've compared to). Only thing is the bokeh is not as great and that there are issues at both extremes, but those extreme range problems are truly minor ones.

Do true extensive tests before you decide on the quality of a product, especially when you have that product. Don't fall in line on what others are saying because it's popular.

Test, test, test, and make your own deductions.
