A Decent Lens for Football

I know when you look at those photographers on the sidelines and see their 400mm lenses, you think you have to have one of those to get great photos. Well, I'm sure 400mm helps. However, the other day I was forced to use my Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens without the 1.7x extender during a middle school football game. It was a Fall, late afternoon, overcast day where I needed all of the f2.8 aperture. Unlike soccer, football allows you to get close to the action and predict where the action will take place. Thus I find I get more good photos with the 70-200 lens than using the same lens for soccer.

These photos were all shot with the 70-200 with only basic cropping and minor adjustments using Aperture.
