Typically as the answer would go, it depends onw hat you wanna shoot :)
But personally, I would prefer the L series,
even if it means i am losing about 100mm in focal length.
The L series has the best glass, at least most of them :)
I am using 70-300, but am not really content with it.
It becomes soft the closer i get to 300mm.
70-200 is what i am planning ot buy in a few days :)
Hope you get to make an apt decision, but do consider what you would be shooting, and where, and whether you would need the 300mm in those situations.
As for the price, Canon is having rebates now, so you can get the
70200mm f/4L for about $580, that would be close to 500Euros, on www.amazon.com. Get it shiped to your american address, if you dont want to pay the extra postage to get it to Italy.
