I've had this lens for a few years and although I used it a lot right after I got it, then hardly until the past six months, I have only had one instance in which I wish I would have had a hood. I was shooting an action scene just to the left of the sun and didn't realize how badly the sun's glare had rocked the edge of the shot until I got home. Fixable, but not preferable. Anyway, that's one person's experience. There you have it.
