40D and pro sports arenas

dalydose posted a new topic:

I know that commercial/professional equipment is not allowed at sporting events. I am wondering if anyone with a 30D or 40D has had issues getting their cameras into professional sports events. Specifically, if anyone has been to the Staples Center here in Los Angeles, that would be REALLY helpful.

I am going to the Red Wings vs. the Kings game today and I would love to bring the camera along, but I read this on the Staples website:

------------------------------------------------

Photography

No commercial or flash photography of any kind is permitted. Camcorders or any other audio/visual equipment is prohibited unless authorized by team/promoter or performer. Specifically, the use of the following equipment is not permitted:

Lenses greater than three-and-one-half inches in length

Telephoto or zoom lenses of any kind

Interchangeable lenses of any kind

Monopods or tripods

Flash equipment of any kind

---------------------------------------------------

The wording is REALLY strict, but I wonder about 'real world' enforcement. Even point and shoots are 'flash equipment' and have zoom lenses. If I just have one lens with me (the kit 17-135 should be short enough) I'm hoping that they will let me bring it in. Am I dreaming?
