It's not that heavy. It weighs a few grams more than the 24-70L, and noticeably less than the 70-200L.
If 1025 grams is too heavy, I'd suggest hitting the gym, sir :)
Sandy, I think the Mk. II is worth it. I used the Mk. I a lot, and it was slow but certainly useable. The Mk. II really isn't that slow, unless it is making large adjustments, like from focused at 4ft to focused at 40 ft. But that's just physics.
The Mk. II might have a bit less CA, but that's a trait of most superfast lenses, under certain conditions. The Mk. II also has better bokeh stopped down, thanks to the circular aperture blades.
