Reply to Which Lens to Purchase?

Well, my camera has been professionally cleaned and I'm told there is nothing wrong with the focus so the problem rests with ME.

Bob -

I've reset the default for the ISO to adjust at 1/60 second. You mentioned that your wife likes her 55-200 VR because it's lightweight. My 70-300ED is pretty lightweight too. Mmmikey's idea of renting a lens is a good one; I just have to find a place that does that. I'll read about the other lenses suggested here too. I know the expensive one, the 70-200VR weighs about three pounds. I doubt I would want anything heavier and that would take getting used to. I guess the real unknown for me is how much VR would help in the low light of morning and evening when the animals are out. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Thanks to shellbell44 and billaday. I'll check out those lenses. Shellbell44 mentioned deserving the best lens because I have great subjects. I think I deserve the best lens because of my BIG birthday coming up. I just got into nature photography and I have to make up for lost time!

I am curious about something. Photos for Fun mentioned that the 70-300 ED uses only the center of the lens. Is that a consideration when purchasing a lens? I don't know what that means.
