I do have to say that if your shootinh @300mm its going to be soft, that lens isnt very sharp that long. just a thought
the 70-300 ed is not a DX lens, its an FX meaning its made to be used on a full frame film body. it produces a larger image circle that you digital body takes a smaller "center" square out of, therefor your working with the shaper sweet spot. most of the lenses your looking at are FX. Dx lenses are lighter and optimized to work only on digital bodies. Theres not a huge number of DX lenses on the market.
