18-70 is a good lens but it won't be as sharp at 18mm as your 18-55 is. I tried two 18-70's and a 24-85 and they were not as sharp as my 18-55 at 18mm. I finally went with an 18-135 and am very satisfied. It is pretty sharp all the way. I also have the 70-300 VR which is a super lens.
